Annual Report

Dear parents, teachers, students, and well-wishers,

It is with great pleasure that I present to you the annual report for the year 2023-2024. As we reflect on the events and achievements of the previous year, it fills me with immense pride to witness the remarkable progress and growth that the school has experienced with the unwavering support from the management, and the collective effort of each member of the staff.

In my second year as principal, I am delighted to report that we have continued to build upon the strong foundation laid down by our predecessors, striving for excellence in every aspect of education and holistic development.

The layout of the computer lab was upgraded from vertical to horizontal as this has several implications and benefits. One of the primary reasons for switching to a horizontal layout is to optimize space. Vertical layouts often require more floor space as each workstation occupies a relatively large footprint. However, switching to a horizontal layout enabled more efficient arrangement of workstations, potentially allowing more computers to be accommodated in the same area. A horizontal layout contributes to better ergonomics for users. Monitors can be positioned at eye level more easily, reducing neck strain. Keyboards and mice can be placed in more comfortable positions, minimizing wrist strain. Overall, this can lead to a more comfortable and productive computing experience for students and staff.

New curtains, thick in texture, were purchased and fitted in the computer lab to help reduce the glare on computer screens caused by sunlight or bright indoor lighting. This enables students to work comfortably without much strain on their eyes. It also helps regulate the temperature in the computer lab by providing insulation. In colder environs, these curtains help retain heat; in a warmer climate, they block out heat from sunlight, which helps to keep the room cooler. They provide privacy for students working in the computer lab, especially during exams or when working on sensitive projects. These thick curtains also help absorb sound, thereby reducing noise levels in the computer lab. It creates a quieter and more focused environment for students to work in. Apart from this, thick curtains also contribute to the overall aesthetics of the computer lab, making it look more inviting and professional.

The upgraded computer lab promotes collaboration among students. With monitors and desks arranged side by side, it becomes easier for students to work together on projects, share information, and collaborate effectively. This set up encourages peer learning and fosters a sense of community within the computer lab. It offers better cable management options compared with vertical setups. Cables can be routed more efficiently along the length of the desks, reducing clutter and the risk of tripping hazards. This not only improves the aesthetic appeal of the computer lab but also makes it easier to maintain and troubleshoot the equipment. Horizontal layouts are more accessible. Lower desks and easier access to peripherals makes it simpler for users to sit down and start working without facing barriers related to desk height or monitor placement. It offers greater flexibility for rearranging the computer lab according to changing needs. Desks and monitors can be easily reconfigured to accommodate different teaching styles, group sizes, or activities taking place in the lab. Overall, transitioning from a vertical to a horizontal layout in a computer lab has led to a more efficient, comfortable, and collaborative learning environment for students and educators alike.

In addition to the forty new computers, forty new hydraulic chairs were purchased for the modified computer lab in order to enhance the learning environment and accommodate the evolving needs of students. With technological advancements, newer computers offer improved performance and compatibility with educational software, facilitating more efficient learning experiences. Additionally, hydraulic chairs, which provide adjustable seating options, promote better ergonomics and comfort during extended periods of computer use. Upgrading equipment also ensures reliability and reduces maintenance costs associated with older, outdated technology. Overall, these investments contribute to a more engaging and conducive learning environment that fosters student productivity and well-being.

Senses interactive panels and digital boards were fitted in the grades I –VIII classrooms. These are equipped with a wide range of educational software, including multi-touch and voice recognition capabilities, and offer features like screen recording and sharing to facilitate interactive, collaborative, and online classrooms. They encourage student engagement by incorporating interactive elements and stimulating student participation and engagement in the learning process. The interactive nature of these boards makes learning more enjoyable for students and fosters a dynamic and immersive educational experience. With built-in internet connectivity, interactive panels enable access to a vast array of educational resources and online tools, thereby enriching the learning environment with multimedia content and collaborative activities. These panels cater to various learning styles, allowing students to interact with content in ways that suit their individual preferences and needs, whether visual, auditory, or kinaesthetic. Features such as screen recording and sharing facilitate lesson revision by allowing teachers to record and distribute instructional materials, making it easier for students to review and reinforce their understanding of key concepts. Even though an initial investment was required, the interactive panels offer long-term cost savings by replacing traditional teaching aids such as textbooks and printed materials. Their versatility across multiple subjects can contribute to the overall cost reduction in the classroom. Interactive panels provide a comprehensive solution for enhancing classroom engagement, facilitating interactive learning experiences, and accommodating the diverse needs of students and educators.

A new infirmary was set up in order to provide medical care, first aid, and support for students who become ill or injured during school hours. This ensures that students receive prompt medical attention if they fall ill or sustain minor injuries during school hours. The infirmary is equipped with basic medical supplies and equipment necessary for administering first aid such as bandages, antiseptics, ice packs, and other essential items to address minor injuries or medical emergencies.

Some students may have chronic health conditions that require ongoing monitoring or medication administration during school hours. The infirmary provides a safe and private space for managing these conditions and ensuring students’ health needs are met.

The infirmary provides a designated area for medication administration for students who require prescription medications during school hours. This helps ensure proper dosages are given at the appropriate time under the supervision of a registered nurse. Ms. Asha Alex, a trained registered nurse appointed by the school, often conducts health screenings and assessments in order to monitor the overall health and well-being of the students. The screening done includes vision and hearing tests, height and weight measurements, and other health assessments to identify any potential issues that may require further attention.

The infirmary serves as a hub for health education and promotion within the school community. The nurse educates students on hygiene, nutrition, mental health, and disease prevention to promote healthy behaviour among students.
